I am truly blessed to have wonderful friends in my life like Danielle and Jon! They are two of the Godliest, fun-loving and caring people that you will ever meet. So, want to know how they met?
In 2014, Danielle moved to Gainesville, GA to pursue her Bachelors of Health Science at Brenau University. Her high school tennis coach had suggested that she check out Chicopee Baptist Church after her move.
Danielle walked into Chicopee on her first Sunday in Gainesville, right into the middle of their annual Homecoming service which, unbeknownst to her, had started a half hour earlier. Completely embarrassed, she rushed home immediately following the service without speaking to anyone. Danielle decided to return the next Sunday (on time) where Casey, the youth pastor at the time, caught her as she was getting ready to leave and invited her to the youth service that Wednesday evening.
Danielle accompanied by her college roommate entered the youth sanctuary on Wednesday evening and found a seat. Several college students came up and introduced themselves, and the last of which was Jon. He had just finished a football game with some of the youth and was drenched in sweat. Wearing gym shorts and a t-shirt with cut-off sleeves...not quite what one might expect to find in a church service. But there was something that made him stand out~like something out of a fairy-tale when a princess slowly falls in love but doesn’t understand quite what draws her to her prince.
Several weeks later, Jon was playing the bass guitar in the band on Sunday morning, and Danielle was singing in the choir when Jon’s guitar strap broke. He caught his guitar before it hit the ground, composed himself, and continued playing. After service, Danielle found him, tapped him on the arm, and said, “Good catch.” Jon looked completely surprised that she was talking to him and choked out the words, “Do you want lunch?”
As they walked outside, Danielle asked if she could ride with him. (She didn’t know the area very well.) A look of horror swept across his face as he agreed. He opened the passenger door of his SUV and began to shovel all of his school books and papers into the backseat. They climbed into his vehicle, and, the entire way to 2 Dog cafe, the SUV refused to get out of second gear. It was both terrifying and hilarious all at the same time.
Lunch went incredibly well, and Jon and Danielle laughed the entire time. When they got back to the church, Jon invited Danielle to a Bible study that evening at his childhood church. She eagerly agreed, and he ever so smoothly asked for her number so he could "give her directions" of course.
Every day since has only gotten sweeter, filled with more love and laughter. Now, they are ready to begin their happily ever after.
